SUPER SATURDAY
Super Saturday truly lived up to its name as St Pauls Boxing Academy hosted a plethora of challengers from boxing clubs in the North of England, and Nottts & Lincs.
The twenty bouts were all keenly contested in front of a massive crowd as the gym was filled to the rafters with supporters.
The night started off with six Skills contests during which the young and upcoming talent of St Pauls were on show for their parents, friends and families. Each boxer showed skill and poise and were much appreciated by the crowed.
The following 16 bouts saw St Pauls juniors youths and seniors take on good opponents. Each bout was keenly contested with every boxer putting on a great performance.
The atmosphere in the gym was warm and friendly and everyone enjoyed an evening of superb boxing.
The trophies for the event were sponsored by committee member John Rutherford who also took an active part by handing medals and trophies to the boxers.
Bouts during the evening were sponsored by the following local businesses: Cat Zero, S&D Flooring, Garness Jones, Trans Waste, 35-35-35 Taxis, Burstalls Solicitors, Estate Planning Solutions, and the Northern Foundry Co.
Representatives from the sponsoring organisations enjoyed the best seats in the house on the front row. They also handed out medals and trophies during the evening.
Mike Bromby, Head Coach, said “It has been a great night of boxing. The boxers and coaches have shown the community what can be achieved if we work hard and persevere. I hope everyone who attended enjoyed themselves as much as I did” he went on to say “A big thank you to all the coaches and boxers who came from out of town to box here tonight and a big thank you to the doctor, referees and judges who also attended what was a very full programme of contests”
